A warm welcome to Adarsha Vidyapeeth Bholaguri (AVB). In 1983, when visionary educationist Late Thaneshwar Borah decided to start an Assamese medium ‘private’ school for the children of this rural, char and tea plantation region, the idea appeared outrageous. In order to understand the audacity of starting this project, one needs to understand the existing conditions in the wider Bholaguri area at that time. There was one major secondary school serving an area of about 10 kilometre radius. Poverty was widespread reflecting the general condition of our state at that time. School dropouts were routine, and not even 10% of the tea garden children were attending school.
